Wildlife at our School

By Lansdowne Crescent Primary School

At Lansdowne, we have many advantages in being located so near to Knocklofty Reserve. It means that we are frequently visited by wildlife from in and around the reserve. Some of these visitors may include echidnas, eastern quolls, eastern barred bandicoots, pademelons, Bennett's wallabies, the long-nosed potoroo, various types of possums, and reptiles such as skinks, blue-tongued lizards and snakes. These animals might be attracted by the grass and trees inside and out of our school boundaries, the occasional food litter and plenty of hiding spots. Please be considerate of these visitors and remember to put your rubbish in the bin!
We received a grant from NRM South to acquire a wildlife monitoring camera, to help us find out what type of wildlife is visiting our school. If you see the camera, please keep away as it will make our task of monitoring the wildlife easier. Being in an urban area, we are expecting to also find evidence of feral animals such as rabbits and cats.
