Reflection Ponds

By Lansdowne Crescent Primary School

This soundscape is a journey of personal reflection and was created by grade 5 students. Please enjoy listening to it as you make your own, personal reflections at the pond. The soundscape is in three part form with bridge passages and coda.
*Children’s footsteps and voices as we walked to the reflection pond. Bridge: metallophones – melodic inversion to symbolize visual reflections.
*Development of the mood – texture created by the use of mostly metal instruments – tiny cymbals, singing bowls, wind chimes – plus a wine glass, frog guiro, antique laundry copper, ocean drum and voices. Bridge: metallophones.
*Word tapestry – whispering our chosen evocative and expressive words, creating differing textures and mood. Coda: extended sound from a lone wine glass.

After you have listened to the calming soundscape, tune in to the Brickworks podcast to find out about the large brickworks that used to dominate the landscape at the top of Arthur Street which you should be able to see in the distance. It covered over twenty acres of land, produced between 40,000 and 50,000 bricks per week and had a fulltime staff of 180 people.
