Frog Ponds
By Lansdowne Crescent Primary School
The community group, Friends of Knocklofty and the Hobart City Council have undertaken a great deal of work to rehabilitate the frog ponds on Knocklofty to ensure the survival of the resident frogs. These Tasmanian natives include the Brown Tree frog, Tasmanian Froglet, Eastern Banjo Frog, Spotted Marsh Frog, Southern Toadlet and Common Froglet. The Friends of Knocklofty has fenced off the pond areas to protect them from local dogs and limit the spread of the chytrid fungus which currently threatens these native amphibians. Further information about the chytrid fungus can be found at https://www.dpiw.tas.gov.au/inter.nsf/WebPages/LJEM-673V89?open
