Introduction to the Knocklofty Interpretive Trail

By Lansdowne Crescent Primary School

Tasmanian school, Lansdowne Crescent Primary is located in the western suburbs of Hobart, nestled on the slopes of Knocklofty Reserve. The school won a Melbourne University/ Asia Education Foundation, Becoming Asia Literate Grant in 2011. This allowed the development of a project entitled ‘Land to Sea: Unity in Diversity’ which combined studies of science, sustainability, music, English and Indonesian. This project has become the basis for sharing with Lansdowne’s Indonesian BRIDGE partner school, SDN Kaliasin 1, a primary school in Surabaya, Indonesia.
The project consists of a bilingual nature trail through the Knocklofty Reserve. It is a remarkable achievement, integrating a wide range of curricular areas with clever use of technology. Lansdowne’s Grade 5 students are charged with the role of keeping the website up to date, adding to the resources available and leading school and community groups on the trail.
Enjoy your visit and make sure you access the online information through the onsite QR codes, using your smart device as you walk the trail.
